Arrenodes minutus. Commonly known as the "coke bottle weevil." I found this lovely character on the end of a red oak that the park service had cut down (it was likely a hazard). Then I noticed two more. The following year I went back to the log and found them on it again. I seldom see them.
Membracidae. Tiny and cute!
Robber flies (asilidae) are extraordinarily effective predators. They grab smaller insects in flight and then remove the juices through their tubular mouthparts. Like other flies, they have only two wings.
