Caterpillar with moult
Like a discarded piece of clothing this caterpillar stands next to the skin (called an exuviae) he has shed -- probably in the last couple of hours. Caterpillars moult several times as they grow and both their color and form (spines and spikes) can change as they do so. Found in the Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.
