Robber flies (asilidae) are extraordinarily effective predators. They grab smaller insects in flight and then remove the juices through their tubular mouthparts. Like other flies, they have only two wings.
We humans tend to fear wasps but they are really not aggressive. To take a photo like this I move quietly within inches of the insect. But I have never once been stung by a wasp or bee while photographing.
Pentatomoidea is the family but I've no idea of the species. There's nothing like an insect stare-down!
